#6 is very important & also very grounding to remember. I'll occasionally tell people that I'm not doing well, & inevitably I'll get a few of the "ohhhh, yes, the world is so hard right now" responses. I know people are usually well-meaning when they do this, but I don't think some people understand that even if we lived in a Leftist utopia with abundance for all, I would still occasionally want to shoot myself in the head!
Exactly. I feel like it’s also easy to inadvertently use that as an excuse to not get help — externalizing the issue and waiting for a hypothetical fix via world peace or something. I agree that collective issues contribute to our individual burdens and it’s wrong that we are getting medicated to shit, but brains get sick just like other organs. Proper education around that is so important.
There needs to be a study on why psychiatrists are all so fucking nuts because I’ve been seeing one since I was 14 and didn’t get a competent, normal one until I was 27.
The worst people already gravitate towards mental health as a career but on top of that medical school is so cut throat that they all want to go to the top schools and be at the top of their class. Unfortunately that makes them not very well rounded and kind of insufferable. Plus Freud was a pervert.
Hi Hilde. Thanks for sharing this. In the mid-90’s women started getting diagnosed with bipolar 2 (me included) (long story) (maybe we can have coffee sometime) and I was prescribed lamictal. I spent the better part of the next 10 years trying to get off of it. I was finally successful in 2023 with the help of a pharmacist whose entire job is helping people get off meds. It’s now 2026 and all is stable. My point to this: I wonder how we all so easily hand over our brain chemistry to people who qualitatively determine a diagnosis for us?
I hope the current situation works for you and good days are ahead.
Ahhh!!!!!! My doctor put me on Lamictal too! Man that shit fucks you up. I’m so glad to hear that you are off it and stable. Such a nasty drug if it’s not one you need. Totally agree w your point, and I can’t believe meds get prescribed so willy nilly. Living in Europe now, I feel like it’s more of an issue in the U.S. — it’s way harder to get meds here, esp if you’re on public insurance.
Also, I didn’t know that was happening in the 90s! Why?? And thank you for the well wishes <3
Hi Hilde. I apologize. I wrote “mid 90’s” and I really meant the 2000’s 😬. I went on in maybe 2011-12. And finally got off by 2023.
I am not sure why women were diagnosed with bipolar 2 so much…it was an anecdotal statement by my internal medicine doc, who was like “oh yes of course, another woman diagnosed in the 2000’s”. Personally, I’ve always thought it was a “trend” started when Catherine Zeta Jones was diagnosed with BP2.
just had a convo with a friend in Oklahoma whose psychiatrist's secretary called saying "we have to move you to another Dr. bc yours can't see female patients anymore." He'd been fucking patients but the SECRETARY got fired for snitching, not him. He had also been prescribing meds to a woman he had met on a dating app. He's still practicing, years later. 🤡 that field attracts wackos fr. Glad you finally found a good one 🙌🏻❤️
I am in a recovery program and the reasons men give for not taking even mild anxiolytics are absolutely wackadoo. Me, I wish I had gotten on mine decades ago.
Also hell yes on the pill organizer. Changed my whole vibe.
Would actually love to hear one of the reasons if you’re allowed to spill… but I believe it. My rehab had co-ed sessions with the guys down the road, and they had very interesting ways of intellectualizing things. I’m glad you’re having positive results on the meds!! And I gotta invest in an organizer…rn I’m using a shot glass as a makeshift one
Almost five years on the SSRI/lobotomy medicine combo and I’m only now finally finding peace with accepting that it saved my life ❤️❤️❤️ I’m glad you found something that worked

Like what is going on? If you are clearly maladapted and show obvious signs that you hate human beings, you should not be able to get certified lol

Maybe they mistook PMDD for BP2?
You had me until point 5

Cymbalta gang
I actually never took that one. Good results?
only one that produces nonzero results!

“I’ve taken too many drugs in my life as it is…”
Also used to explain why they aren’t getting vaccinated.
“I should be able to do this on my own.”
Presumably through meditation which they are too anxious to do and which they also don’t believe works.
“My sex drive will go away forever” or “My sex drive will go away for even a little while.”
Impossible to overstate how much this is a concern.
“I tried them and they don’t work.”
This usually after they’ve “tried them” for two or three days.
“I won’t be myself anymore.”
This when “being myself” is a living hell.

Awww 💜💜💜 I love this and love you!!
